Kalkhoff is one of Europe’s largest and most recognized bicycle brands, and offers a broad range of conventional and high-performance electric models ideal for urban transportation, touring and everyday recreation.

Kalkhoff’s pedal-assist electric bicycles, also known as pedelecs or e-bikes, are extremely popular throughout Europe because of their design, range and performance. They use an electric motor to supplement the power a rider applies to the pedals, providing a smooth, predictable boost. Operated the same way as a traditional bicycle, Kalkhoff e-bikes make running errands, commuting or riding for pleasure easy, efficient and fun

COMFORTABLE, FAST, ELEGANT – ELECTRIC BIKES

Electric bikes from Kalkhoff offer the ideal combination of mobility and comfort. As soon as you start pedalling an electric bike or  pedelec, a powerful yet quiet electric motor helps propel you forward. This means you can tackle journeys you would otherwise prefer to make by car. No wonder pedelec cyclists bike two to three times more than conventional cyclists. Don't make things harder than they need to be; enjoy cycling the easy way.

>> A powerful motor:

The heart of an e-bike is the drive unit, which in turn consists of the motor, the power electronics and the battery. On the one hand, the motors differ as regards power. In fast e-bike models built from 2010 onwards Kalkhoff only uses 300 watt motors. These motors provide the rider with a maximum power of 300 watts with added assistance at higher speeds. For normal e-bikes Kalkhoff uses 250 watt motors, which give the rider up to 250 watt assistance.

>>The comfort of the assist level:

Depending on the model, the highest assist level in 2010 models is 1:1.5 or 1:1.75 (fast e-bike). From the 2011 season onwards you will be able to select the highest assist level of 1:2 in any e-bike model with a centre or front motor, regardless of whether it is a normal pedelec or fast e-bike. The maximum assist level in the new BionX models is as high as 1:3.

The motor can be set at three assist levels (4 levels in BionX models) in order to give you the most comfortable ride possible, whatever the circumstances. Depending on the selected assist level, the e-bike rider receives less or more assistance from the motor. The actual wattage of the motor output depends on the rider's pedal power. In other words, the faster you pedal, the more the motor assists you. Electric motors assist riders of conventional e-bikes up to a speed of 25 km/h and with fast e-bikes up to a speed of 40 km/h.

This assistance is stated in watts and, depending on the motor, is up to 300 or 250 watts. If the rider reaches higher speeds than permitted for the model in question, the motor switches off and provides no more assistance. How long the battery charge lasts depends on what assist level you select. An e-bike can be ridden like a conventional bicycle when the motor is switched off.

Kalkhoff 18Amp Battery >>Longest life and range Battery - 18 Amp:

The battery, or more precisely, the accumulator (accu for short), offers the perfect combination of performance (distance per chargelife) and low weight. From 2011 onwards Kalkhoff e-bikes will be supplied with three different versions of this cutting-edge lithium-ion rechargeable battery. These are some of the safest batteries on the market and boast yet a further marked increase in their battery life, a uniform output, and they are easy to recharge.

Please note: if you want to take your pedelec on holiday, the battery cannot be transported by plane. Since our pedelec and fast e-bike batteries are rated hazard class 9, they cannot be transported in passenger planes. Freight aircraft are excluded from this restriction. Until now Kalkhoff has only used 10 Ah batteries. From 2011 onwards, 8, 12 and 18 Ah batteries will also be available. This means every electric bike rider will be able to find the battery that best meets his/her needs.
